The seawater of Being is a constant awakener, calling to the beauty of our potential awareness. This awareness is hidden and protected until it is ready for revelation. It is sweet, precious, so beautiful. It responds, in the end, to the longing call of eternity. These are deep, powerful, passionate mysteries.
From time to time someone comes with words and love to point to the moon, so that new souls may break open in to their inheritance. Rumi was one of these, Coleman Barks another I think, as he has translated Rumi so compellingly for this century. There are so many others – for me it is the spiritual writers and the poets who most inspire, but for others it is the musicians, the visual artists, the healers, the warriors. Trust that your way of knowing has been planted as a seed to lead you to the truth (whatever that may be for you).
Becoming more fully alive, breaking out of our shell, is a process only accomplished through accessing the profound, compelling, passionate, erotic, dynamic energy of spirit as life. The spirit which begs us to come forward, the spirit in us which needs its counterpart to embrace. Some kiss we want with our whole lives.
So with love today, here is some seawater……
There is some kiss we want
with our whole lives
the touch of spirit on the body
Seawater begs the pearl
to break its shell.
And the lily, how passionately
it needs some wild darling.
At night I open the window
and ask the moon to come
and press its face against mine.
The moon won’t use the door,
only the window.
(Coleman Barks, after Rumi)
